AFTER A KNOCKOUT 22ND SEASON,
THE BRAVO! VAIL VALLEY MUSIC FESTIVAL GEARS UP FOR 2010

Bravo! Raises The Bar on Musical Standards

Vail, CO. – Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival announces an unparalleled 2010 season. The all-star line up of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic will dominate the 2010 season, running from June 25 to August 3, 2010, punctuated with moe more than 40 internationally renowned soloists and chamber musicians.

The 2010 season will kick off with a not-to-be-missed recital by the multi-Grammy winning cellist, Yo-Yo Ma, and pianist Kathryn Stott. The 75-minute recital will take place at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater and promises to be a thrilling performance.

In 2009, The 22nd season of Bravo reached an attendance of more than  60,000 attendees at concerts held throughout the Vail Valley. With the return of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Jaap van Zweden along with The Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic, the orchestras garnered much applause and acclaim as they performed six concerts each at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater. Celebrated artists such as Gil Shaham, Alisa Weilerstein and Simone Dinnerstein raised the festival to new heights, as well as the successful world premiere of Green Torso by the Festival’s 2009 composer-in-residence, Marc Neikrug.

The Music Matters educational programs remained strong this past summer with the return of the Instrument Petting Zoos, Free Public Performances, and the Very Young Composers Project, a program that introduces children and teachers to the art of music composition.  This program was created and led by John Deak of the New York Philharmonic.  Under Mr. Deak’s direction, 10 students in Eagle County composed new works that were performed at two library concerts before an audience of almost 200 listeners.

Other free youth programs in the community included the popular Instrument Petting Zoo, Live @ The Library performances and Free Family Concert. Educational programming continues with our winter residency, when the Festival will host a graduate student ensemble from the Juilliard School of Music that will spend time performing in area schools and conducting after school master classes.

In 2010, Bravo welcomes back the Dallas Symphony Orchestra after their much-lauded performances during the 2009 season, marking the first of a three year agreement as a resident orchestra at the Festival.  The orchestra will perform six different programs at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, a combination of both classical and pop performances led by Maestro van Zweden and pops concerts.
The Dallas Symphony will join The Philadelphia Orchestra with Chief Conductor Charles Dutoit and the New York Philharmonic with new Music Director and Conductor Alan Gilbert as resident orchestras of the Festival. Each orchestra will perform six concerts in Vail, from June 30 to July 30, 2010.

More than 40 internationally renowned soloists and chamber musicians will perform during the Festival including Yo-Yo Ma, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, and Orion Weiss . A world premiere by Bravo’s 2010 Composer-in-Residence, Joan Tower, will be performed July 20.
