Youth Programs

Take advantage of these fun, lively youth programs from Bravo Music Matters.

The Instrument Petting Zoo

Children experiment with real orchestral instruments -- woodwinds, percussion, brass and strings. You’ll find Bravo’s Instrument Petting Zoo traveling to various summer events in the Vail Valley.

Little Listeners @ the Library

Children ages 3 through 7, as well as the young-at-heart, enjoy informative musical performances in area libraries. Renowned musicians introduce their instruments and talk about the history and the importance of music.

Free Family Concert

Bravo’s annual Family Concert is an exciting and informal introduction to symphonic music. The spectacular Ford Amphitheater is the perfect venue for a family outing.  This free performance is Thursday, July 12, 2012 with the National Repertory Orchestra.  Doors open at 10:00 a.m.

Very Young Composers

Children ages 9 through 12 and their teachers study the art of music composition under the leadership of  New York Philharmonic Ambassador of Education Jon Deak.  Through stories, picture scores, and collaboration with peers, young composers can take their ideas all the way to the stage.  In 2011 three of the Young Composers received recognition and awards in the Music Teachers National Association Composition Competition.

After-School Piano Lessons

Children in grades 2 through 7 receive half-hour classes after school each week during the academic year. The cost for each student’s lesson is only $2 and fees are waived for over 40% of underprivileged students. Instructors introduce fundamental music concepts and basic reading skills.

Summer Internships

Each summer three college interns gain first-hand experience in arts management, public relations, and marketing while earning credit towards their degrees. To be considered for an internship position, please submit a cover letter and resume to the attention of the Internship Committee by February, 2012. For more information please contact Liz Campbell or call 970-827-4302.

Instrument Bank

Eagle and Lake County schools receive instruments and music supplies to fortify school music programs. Each year the Festival purchases and repairs school instruments .  During the summer idle instruments are used at the Instrument Petting Zoo. The Instrument Bank also equips students enrolled in after-school music classes with a keyboard to use for practice at home. There is no fee for the keyboard during the school year and a nominal monthly fee during the summer months.

Winter Residency

Each year an ensemble from the University of Colorado's School of Music spends one week performing in Eagle and Lake County schools and conducting after school workshops with accomplished string students in the Vail Valley. Check back soon for details Bravo Music Matters 2012 Winter Residency program.
