Very Young Composers Program During the summer, nine students are given the opportunity to work with the New York Philharmonic's bassist Jon Deak to compose their own music. The students have three workshops with Mr. Deak, during which the students learn how to read music and how different notes sound on different instruments. After the students are taught about the music, Mr. Deak then shows the kids how to compose music. The music is performed by New York Philharmonic artists at local libraries. Audiences are amazed with the student compositions, but the real thrill of the performance is the look on the students' faces when they hear their music being performed! ------------- Read what students and parents have to say about their experiences with Bravo Music Matters "I learned that making a tune was not as easy as it looks!"
"Being with the musicians and seeing their enthusiasm for teaching us."
"It was so cool to hear your music being played just the way you want it by the professionals.
"It was awesome! I thought, if my music could be played by people that have played all over the world,
"It has always been my dream to compose music."
"It was amazing and sounded better than I had imagined in my head."
"I observed that Carlie has an increased interest in classical music and an increased awareness
"What a wonderful program. My son Bora now trusts himself to create beautiful music. He sits down in front of the piano without me reminding him. He pays attention to cartoon background music to see what kind of music shows which emotion and which instrument shows it best."
"The deeper and long-term benefit is how the participation broadens them as people. They see themselves and music differently. Their creativity is fostered and given no limits. They see that music can be a profession. Very Young Composers participants learn that anything is possible."
